Early Life & Background
Bhupendra Gurung, born on June in Doodhpokhari-06, Dandathok, Lamjung,Nepal, displayed a keen interest in martial arts from a young age . He inspired by movie of Bruce Lee and began training in Kung-fu at the age of 8 in his school. He shows exceptional skill and dedication from the start so his Master Animesh Lal Shrestha joined him extra classes in kung fu club.
Rise to Prominence
Under the guidance of his Master Animesh Lal Shrestha at Wuma Kungfu Nepal, Gurung quickly advanced through the ranks, earning as follows:
•1st Dan Black Belt in April 2010
•2nd Dan Black Belt in July 2011
•3rd Black Belt Dan in March 2018
•4th Dan Black Belt in Feb 2025. Competing in National and international tournaments, he gained recognition for his speed, precision, moves & powerful techniques.
World Championship Success
The pinnacle of Gurung’s carrier came in 2018. At 12thWorld Martial Arts Games of world championships in Germany when he secured the Gold medal in thecategory of forms division SS+18 male . He defeated top competitors from around the world to claim the title.
Recently he secured two Gold medals for Nepal in Battle of the Dragon World Championships, New Jersey, USA– 2025.
Monetary Awards & International Honors
In recognition of his Gold medal victory for Nepal and inspiring the next generation of athletes & inspiring the Nepali community he was monetary awarded $3,000 from Tamu Pariwar New York Inc, USA & $1,000 from MB Gurung Restaurant Inc Dba Happy Kitchen New York , USA at 27 Dec 2024, for his remarkable contributions to Nepali sports and youth development on the occasion of great Festival TamuLhochhar.
* He was awarded £500 with Most Valuable Player in IMAC Open Tournament 2025 winning two Gold medals in two category of patterns, event organized by International martial arts corporation (IMAC), world in UK.
Impact and Legacy
Beyond competition Mr. Gurung has inspired the next generation of Nepal martial arts by promoting kung-fu & Indigenous sports through coaching, seminars, motivational talks & organizing martial arts events. He has also been involved in charitable work, supporting youth programs and encouraging sportsmanship and discipline in young athletes.
Personal Life and Future Plans
Gurung enjoys to work in charity work and organize seminars of self defence course to the children, women & blind people. He also loves to research the indigenous sports and participate in preservation & promotion. Outside sports he loves to make music videos & movies.
He had directed more than 100 music videos & a Nepali feature film KAPTI. But he remains committed for growing the kung-fu & indigenous sports globally. With plans to coach establish a Martial arts Temple in Nepal where world’s martial arts players will come to visit practice, training, meditate & study.
He also plans to continue participating in world championships, seminars, workshops for the martial arts update and connection to the martial arts athlete around the globe.
